The Photochrome (19th C.) was a complex photolithographic technique that, starting from a black and white negative, was forced to invent the color by manually overlaying up to fifteen lithographic plates. This intentional "chromatic fiction" resulted in an iconic aesthetic of hyper-saturated and unreal colors, aiming for the "strength" of an oil painting to justify its high cost.
This series rescues this foundational impulse of post-production, using digital darkroom to emulate that exaggerated palette, engaging in a dialogue with the historical tradition of manipulating the image and transforming captured reality into an idealized visual fantasy.
